Finally the weather seems to be saying that summer is here. This weekend is to be a hot one which is fantastic for those who want to head out and get a good bit of camping done before school begins.
We had a good two weeks camping in Waskesiu. The first week was rather cool but then the second one was excellent swimming weather. If you have never been to Waskesiu or more correctly, Prince Albert National Park, I heartily recommend it. Our family has been camping there for 30 years. We prefer Beaver Glen which does not have all the services: in fact, about half of the 200 plus sites have electricity only while the rest have no services at all. However, the big key for us is that you can have fires and the all the wood you want for only $8.80 a day. I call that cheap! In Beaver Glen, you also are "in the woods" so it feels like camping.
Red Deer camp ground is closer to the town and it has complete services. However, you are parking rather close to your neighbours so do not have all the privacy but you do have all the services so for many an easy trade off.
Lots to do in the Park as it has many walking trails, two main beaches and several little picnic sites along the lake shore with fire pits and free wood.
The town site contains a movie theater, restaurants, grocery store, hotels and cabins for rent plus a variety of stores for shopping. If you are into golfing the Waskesiu Golf Course is one of the best.
As I indicated above, there is still some summer left. If you have the time, take a trip up to P A National Park and maybe bring the tent along.
