Forget Real Estate, What About Canada's World Junior's!!!

Happy New Year to all!  I hope that you enjoyed the holiday season with family and friends.  I usually blog about Real Estate or Century21 stuff but I thought I would change gears and speak about something else that is very close to my heart....hockey.  For most of Canada the holiday season isn't the same without watching our elite junior aged hockey players compete for gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship(WJHC).  This year was unbelievable and Canada did it again, for the 5th straight year.

This tournament gave us a chance to get caught up with the emotion of each and every hard check, game saving stop and thrilling highlight goal.  It allowed us to forget about any other distractions (even just for a couple hours) that the world might be offering us.  Funny how such a thing as a hockey game can bring our country together.  I watched the game crowded around the t.v. with family.  The crowd which featured Catrina, her son Jarrid and my soon to be in-laws Wally and Georgie.  To say that this crowd that I watched the game with were not huge hockey fans, is a bit of an understatement.  In fact prior to there arrival here from Cape Breton, you couldn't get them to even watch hockey.  But, what would you know, I could hear and see them yelling and cheering with every big play that happened.  Funny how a hockey game can bring a family together...ha ha.

This years tournament was held in our nations capital, Ottawa and even Prime Minister Stephen Harper was on hand for the festivities.  I personally didn't attend the games in Ottawa, but you could feel the excitement even if you watched the game at home, at a buddy's place or at your local watering hole.  Back in 2003, I did attend the WJHC in Nova Scotia and I can tell you from personal experience, there is nothing like being there live.  I can remember being in the arena in Halifax for the championship game.  The crowd was a sea of red and white and the 15,000 people that sold out the place, were cheering as loud as they could.   They didn't win that year, they lost to Alexander Ovechkin's Russian counterparts, but it was still something to be there.

Next year the tournament is being held in Saskatchewan, but in 2011 it will be held in nearby Buffalo, New York, I recommend if you get a chance to attend the WJHC's, go!  I know I will certainly try and be there.

Here's wishing you all the best for 2009.
