Hawaiian Cruise - Recap

It has been just about 2 weeks since Catrina and I returned from our vacation and I wanted to share with you some highlights of our fantastc voyage to the Hawaiian Islands.

We set sail on the Golden Princess, this is part of the Princess Cruise line, out of San Pedro, California, about 40 minutes out of L.A.  Beautiful ship, that holds 2,600 passengers.  Service was excellent.   http://www.princess.com/learn/ships/np/index.html

We had stops in Hilo, Kauai, Honolulu, Maui and Ensenada, Mexico.  The ship must stop in Mexico in order to allow duty free and the casino gambling aboard the ship.  Each port offered something different.

Hilo - Highlights: Akaka Falls, Lava Tunnels the Volcano National Park.

Kauai - Highlihts: North Shore, beautiful beaches, people surfing and a rundown hotel which was the backdrop for Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii.

Honolulu - Highlights: ʻIolani Palace - this was the palace of the former royalty of Hawaii, dowtown shopping and Waikiki Beach

Maui - Highlights: Black Rock, small village and beaches

It was my very first time to Hawaii and what a trip.  Picture tropical mountains, waterfalls, volcano's, beaches, plus throw in the downtown city life of Honolulu and you understand why Hawaii is worth it.
Anytime I go to a new place I always like to keep an eye on the local Real Estate market.  I have had people tell me that Hawaii is very expensive.  This is true for the most part, but the average detached home on the island of Hilo was approximately $350K.  Of course in Maui you can triple that price, very easily.  
Our ship made a final stop in Ensenada, Mexico, on our cruise back to Los Angeles.  If you want house deals, this is the place.  Ensenada is a growing city that is just 108 klm's from the US border.  You can purchase new homes here that feature 3 bedroom's and double car garage's starting at $150K.  You don't speak Spanish?  Fear not, 95% of this area speaks English and with only 5% unemployment, crime is very low.
