Toronto Real Estate Market Has Best May Ever

Toronto’s real-estate market logged a record number of sales for the month of May.

The Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) said 11,079 homes were sold through the TorontoMLS system last month — up 11.4 per cent from May 2013.The average price was $585,204, an 8.3-per-cent increase over May of last year, when the average price was $540,544.“The listings situation in the GTA did not improve this past May,” said TREB’s Jason Mercer.“With listings down and sales up compared to last year, competition between buyers increased.  The result was price growth well-above the rate of inflation, especially for singles, semis and townhomes.”A detached home in the city of Toronto sold for $943,055 on average, while in the rest of the GTA, the average detached price was $648,439.The average price for a condo was $401,809 in Toronto and $307,307 in the surrounding areas.
