Declining attendance and interest in the last few Stittsville Winterfest celebrations has the local association deferring the planning of the next snow festival for 2012.
Usually the last weekend of February has been reserved to celebrate winter in Stittsville and normally held at the community park of Ralph Park Road. Normally hayrides, bed races, skating, hot chocolate and fun were the fare where locals turned out for a bit of winter style fun. But not this year.
It is a lot of work from volunteers and to rekindle the interest the venue may have to change to something larger, possibly something more known to more residents and a real need for sponsorship money would also give the Village Group the ability to advertise and raise the festival's profile and return the interest, says one of the Village Association executive. Maybe. We should start to solicit corporate and communitty involvement now for next year. Then we can all look forward to Winterfest in Stittsville again.
