I've know people who have been in book clubs for quite some time now. I myself have never been. Not until Wednesday. Now I'm afraid I might be a book club junkie! How did this happen so fast?
A friend of mine, Amy, posted that she was starting a book club, who would want to join? I do! I do! We agreed (with the others) to have our first club meeting on November 10th. When I told Julie (my best friend since college) she said I could have joined HER club, they were meeting that very night. Alas, it didn't work for me, but she picked up the book for me, good friend that she is. Not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. . . . Ok, I do know what I expected. I was thinking a book club selection would be heavy reading and literally a heavy book (perhaps War and Peace size - no wonder I didn't join before now). This book was smaller than any I've read in a LONG time. The book was, "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", by Mitch Albom. An easy and interesting read. Julie's book club was meeting on the 7th to discuss it. I met with them and picked up the next book - heck, why not?
Three days later I met with my book club and we chose our first book - "Water For Elephants" by Sara Gruen. We had 4 choices, but there was a soft gasp from a few in the room when this one was brought out. So here we go! 2 books from 2 different book clubs. That might not be enough though, Julie is suggesting another book club for a group of us who get together for ladies night. 3, is being part of 3 book clubs a little excessive? Time will tell . . .
