Ever wonder what to do with your pets after you have decided to put your house on the market for sale? A good Realtor® will acknowledge that you have pets and give you ample notice that it is in your best interest, and in the best interest of the sale of your home to make arrangements to have your pets out of the house. Having your pets out of the house during showings for potential buyers will allow buyers to envision themselves living in the space, avoid distraction and don't forget; not everyone may be as much of an animal lover as you are-so it could potentially alleviate any animal fears or concerns.
If it is at all possible to take your pets with you, I would recommend this as the first and best option. If you are in a position where having your pets stay with you is difficult, try calling a friend, relative or neighbour in advance and asking them if they would mind looking after your pet for a couple of hours. Your Realtor® may have a contact for good rates from a local pet lodge to look after your pet through the selling process. many home owners do not favour this idea because they can not bear to be away from pets for too long (pets are often family too).
Just a tip for home owners that have pets and may be looking to sell. As a Realtor® with Century 21 Heritage Group Ltd. I like to ensure that my clients are well aware of even the smallest details that can sometimes be overlooked. If you are a pet lover looking to list, please keep me in mind-I have you, your family-and your pet's best interest in mind.
