This is has been a very productive year for weeds in back alleys, approaches, ditches and yards. My best go to book for identifying weeds: Weeds of the Prairies-published by Alberta Agriculture, Food & Rural Development/Call Publications Department at 1-800-292-5697 to order. I have had this book with me for over 16 years as a constant reference to weeds in and around my yard. Blueweed, purple loosestrife & field bindweed are only three of many invasive weeds that are seen frequently around SW Alberta. These weeds are perennial and fool many people into thinking they are pretty blue, purple and pink flowers. One of the statements made regularly throughout Weeds of the Prairies book is "To say it is a prolific seed producer is an understatement". This statement has encouraged me to be on the constant look out for not only blueweed, purple loosestrife and field bindweed but all species identified in the book. Our local Agricultural Services (403) 627-4151 in the municipal district of Pincher Creek also respond to phone calls for help in eradicating invasive weeds. Locate; Identify & Eradicate Weeds!
