Olympic Torch in Niagara on the Lake


Niagara-on-the-Lake- Residents should mark Sunday, December 20, 2009 on their calendar as the day when the Olympic Torch will be passing through Niagara-on-the-Lake en route to Niagara Falls.

The Olympic Flame will begin its journey at approximately 4:00 p.m., starting at Jackson-Triggs Winery where it will be transported by renowned local artist Trisha omance in a horse-drawn carriage donated by Sentineal Carriages. It will then proceed along Niagara Stone Road to Queen Street.

Local torchbearers, chosen by RBC Financial and Coca-Cola Canada, will join the procession as it winds through the Heritage District and stops at McFarland House. From there, the torch continues on to Queenston before moving to Niagara Falls, where a major celebration will be held in the evening.

Also, to commemorate the Olympic Flame’s arrival that day, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce will host a Court House from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Members of the public are invited to celebrate the Olympics, learn more about the and warm up with some light refreshments.
