Bike lane debate heats up in Kitsilano

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The debate between people who like four wheels and those who prefer two is about to hit Kitsilano.

Vancouver City Councillors get their hands on a report today on plans for a bike lane between the Burrard Street Bridge and Jericho Beach.

One option would allow drivers to head west on Point Grey Road between MacDonald and Alma, but the eastbound lane would only be opened to cyclists.  The second choice would close the road to people who don’t live in the area.

Several people who own businesses or live in the area have complained about the proposals.

Resident and project supporter Pamela McColl believes those people are outnumbered.  “We have a petition of 2,200 people to this point who absolutely endorse the project,” she says.  “They see the dangers here and want to see the area safer for everybody.”

The report will go to council next week.
