Cap’n Controversy: Is Cap’n Crunch really a captain? Internet fuels delicious debate.

Cap'n Crunch came under fire Tuesday after this image posted to Imgur.com called into question the legitimacy of his rank. The response from the Cap'n was swift — and definitive, as you might expect.

Is Cap’n Crunch getting demoted to Commander Crunch?

A debate is currently raging online about whether or not Cap’n Horatio Magellan Crunch — a.k.a. cereal mascot Cap’n Crunch — is really in fact a captain.

The debate was started when an image surfaced on Imgur.com that shows the “Cap’n” with only three stripes on his sleeve, which is traditionally the mark of a Commander, not Captain.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, a Navy Commander has three stripes on his sleeve, whereas a Captain has four stripes.

When news of the controversy broke, the Cap’n took to Twitter to defend himself against the accusations.
