The provincial government and the City of Vancouver plan to move homeless people into the former Howard Johnson Hotel at Kingsway and E. 12 Ave. as part of their homelessness reduction strategy.
100 interim housing spaces will be available at the former hotel while additional supportive housing projects are completed.
Seven of 14 supportive housing developments have already opened.
The provincial government is providing the operating funding for the new spaces, while the City will fund improvements to the building.
Tenants are expected to move into the building this Spring.
In addition, four temporary winter shelters have opened in Vancouver since December 1 providing 160 spaces that are open 24/7 for homeless individuals.
