A Vancouver woman is garnering international attention after tweeting a look-alike photo of herself posing as American supermodel Kate Upton.
Ania Korkh, 22, replicated a recent Sport’s Illustrated cover in which Upton is posing in a winter jacket – with little else underneath.
“We thought it would just be really funny to take this picture and post it on Twitter,” Korkh told CTV British Columbia.
Before sending the glamour shot out to her Twitter followers, Korkh’s friend suggested tweeting the photo directly to Upton.
“I said, ‘why not, she’s probably not ever going to see it or reply to it’.”
Upton did, in fact, notice her doppelganger, and re-tweeted the shot to more than 800,000 followers.
It didn’t take long for the photo to go viral.
“Within 10 minutes after she re-tweeted it, I had maybe 100 notifications from Twitter,” Korkh said.
The Russian native went from 78 Twitter followers to almost 7,000.
“Ever since then my phone has been exploding,” said Korkh, who is enrolled in liberal studies at Capilano University.
Korkh says she received widespread international attention and has interviews lined up with Anderson Cooper, TMZ and ESPN.
“I’ve never had anything like this happen to me and honestly never thought it would,” she said.
While Korkh said she still has her heart set on being a rhythmic gymnastics teacher, she’s open to any opportunities that result from her overnight fame.
“I just want to see where it takes me,” she said. “This is probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
