Make Sure Social Media Is In Fact Social !

Imagine a blog about Social Media??? There are only millions of them. In fact I am sure any of you reading this are tired of hearing about it and we all cringe at the thought of someone being classified as a "social media guru". I have been asked to speak at a few corporate events on this topic but I am by no means an expert.

I wrote a previous blog about it awhile back as well

Many people may classify it as time wasting and there is no benefit to all relationships it takes work and committment. In the real estate business we rely on relationships to help people make educated decisions based upon their wants and needs. For such an important decision usually you wish to trust the person helping you. In the old days (5 years ago) agents and clients spent more time together looking at properties in catalogues, showings, newspaper ads etc. but now the clients and agents are using the internet for reviewing properties, areas, schools, mortgage rates, crimes, restaurants etc. So the time for "getting to know you" is a lot shorter.

Ways around this is to get connected with each other via whatever network you utilize such as facebook, twitter, flickr, youtube or whatever...but in the end you still have to meet face to face to solidify that relationship to see if it works.

I have used twitter and facebook for some time now and recently was involved in a "tweetup" A few people on PEI who discussed lots of things on twitter thought about getting people that "tweet to meet". We picked a spot, ordered some food and then invited people...and over 75 people attended. Now many of the people in the room didnt "know" each other but when they came into the room...but it was quite easy to have a conversation as most of us "knew" something about the other person from following them on twitter.

Just recently I noticed on twitter and foursquare that many of my "friends and followers" were at a local coffee shop and it was mentioned on I put out there about a coffee meetup...nothing fancy just coffee with some friends...a few replied that they would attend and some said they couldnt but at the end of the day it is another way to get to know people in your community who may not have been in your typical "circle of friends" but it does allow you to expand your network and learn about different things.

There are many ways to start and see what it is about...get a twitter account by going to and could follow me . You could also follow Century 21 Colonial Realty to get notified of new listings and other info You can also search other accounts as well...your local news, radio, celebrities etc....but at the end of the day...nothing beats a cup of coffee or a cold beer with someone to get to know them.

At Century 21 Colonial Realty we are committed to being "Connected To More" so we can offer our clients- past, present and future the data, tools and services to help them with their real estate needs. If you would like to get to know us more...connect with us and let us know what we can do to assist you. Hey we can even get together for a coffee as well !
