Listings continue to be a concern. We did see a nice increase in February with 471 new listings compared to 416 in 2009 but on the year we currently have 1605 active listings compared to 2092 in February 2009.

The 3rd quarter of 2009 came to an end on September 30th. Looking at the City of Peterborough, sub-districts 1-5, single family, all types, we are clearly still in a buyers market with only 3.0 months of inventory. A survey on renovation and home purchases by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation that included ten major cities found 1.7 million households completed renovations costing a total of $21.3 billion during 2008. Renovations came to an average of $12,600 per home. More than half of the renovations were undertaken in order to update, add value, or prepare to sell the home.
