Between March 2011 and March 2012, consumer prices were up 1.9%, following a 2.6% increase in February. With the result of slower year over year increases in prices for food and energy, there difference was 0.7%.

OTTAWA, April 11, 2012 — The seasonally adjusted annual rate1 of housing starts was 215,600 units in March, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). This is up from 205,300 units in February.

Canada's inflation rate accelerates to 2.6 per cent in February. The core rate is at its highest level since Dec. 2008, up 2.3 per cent.
With the higher costs in gasoline and food prices, it is no surprise that the rate is up. How will this effect thecentral bank when setting interest rates, only time will tell. The central bank set 2% as their target, we have surpassed that.
