Canada adds 58,900 jobs in May, unemployment rate unchanged at 6.8%

Canada's labour force received a boost of 58,900 additional jobs last month thanks to a surge in private-sector work.

Statistics Canada's latest job-market report says the national unemployment rate in May remained locked at 6.8 per cent for the fourth-straight month.

In the U.S., the economy added a better-than-expected 280,000 jobs in May with the unemployment rate rising to 5.5 per cent.
