Natasa and I are honoured to be recipients of the 2014 Award of Excellence by the Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation for heritage preservation in Waterloo Region. Natasa and I are strong believers that architectural character is something earned, over time and we are committed to restoring the wonderful old buildings we are fortunate to have here in Hespeler Village on the River!
At the time of this award the Hespeler Hotel was doubling as a Greyhound Bus Station in Stephen King's latest TV production. This was the 4th TV/Film production to feature the Olde Hespeler Hotel building since being awarded a Heritage grant from the Region of Waterloo in 2011.
Heritage grants, and municipal incentives are essential ingredients for core area developers. These financial incentives are economic development drivers that are evident for our heritage properties that have resulted in higher than market rental rates, lower vacancies, low tenant turn over and ultimately higher tax revenues for municipalities.
Both Natasa and I are extremely grateful to Natasa's parents Yvonne and Rudi Kavcic for their endless help and support. (Financially and in good old fashioned elbow grease) Most of all, we are thankful to our brave commercial tenants who have the entrepreneurial daring to invest ahead of the curve and establish themselves as early adopters here in our soon to be booming Village on the River.
