Mount Hope is a small community located in the greater City of Hamilton. It is home to the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. Today it is Canada's largest courier/cargo airport and a growing passenger airport. It was built in 1940 as a wartime air force training station. Originally designed as a multi-purpose military field, the airport was used for flight training, air navigation, telegraphy and air gunnery. After World War II it made its transition from a military establishment to a public facility.
Things to do in Mount Hope
Mount Hope is also home to the Canadian Warplane Museum. Featuring the air crafts used by Canadians and Canada's military from the beginning of World War Two up to the present day. The museum allows visitors to climb into the cockpit of a real jet fighter, a trainer, or the Avro CF-100. There are many displays full of photographs and memorablia which create an educational experience about Canada's history to all ages. They also have air shows, and a Remembrance day ceremony open to the public.
There is also St. Pauls burial ground, a plot for R.A.F servicemen who lost their lives during World War Two. Mount Hope is also home to a new 447 Club run by veterans, and the Glanford Curling Club. It is also the spot for many new homes and home developments.
