February stats are in

I received the February sales report for the Greater Moncton Real Estate Board today and the numbers are encouraging.  We are solidly ahead of 2009 levels but not quite up to 2008 yet. The number of expired listings arre down and our new listings are up 7% which is all good news.  Most of us are desperate for some new inventory and so an increase in listings is welcome.   ...

CMHC Housing Report

Once again I had a chance to attend the CMHC Housing breakfast at the Hotel Beau.  I enjoy these annual seminar's as it is an excellent chance to learn more about the economics of the Atlantic Provinces, and more importantly, the local market. One thing which was repeated in many different ways was that Atlantic Canada faired much better than the rest of the major markets, and Moncton did better ...

Interest Rates 2010

Happy New Year everybody.   Here is a very interesting article that was in the Globe and Mail recently about what changes we might see on the interest rate front this year.   http://bit.ly/6QLnaj  It looks like we might be in for a ride! Best wishes for 2010!

What are you looking for?????

Here's some open ended questions to start the new year with.  What are you looking for in your REALTOR?  What do you expect them to do?  Is your current REALTOR living up to your expectations?  If not, why not?  I would really be interested to your responses to any or all of these questions.   Please do not use the name of any specific REALTOR since I don't need ...

We did it again!!!

One of the great things about living in this area is the generosity of the people.  Metro proved this once again with Sue Stultz's annual turkey drive.  Once again everyone pulled together and smashed the number of turkeys she needed.  This year Sue collected 4464 turkeys for families in the area and for the local food banks.  Incredible! Sue is owed a big THANK-YOU for this on ...

Olympic flame comes to Greater Moncton

It was s suitable party as over 12,000 people gathered at the new track and field stadium at U de M to welcome the Olympic flame to our area.  It had made its way over from PEI earlier in the day and went through Moncton last night. This morning it wound it's way through Riverview and headed towards Fundy Park, Sussex and on to Saint John.  My wife and I watched as the torch was passed at ...

Moncton Real Estate market still strong

I spoke with the CEO of the Greater Moncton Real Estate Board today and she told me that the Board has already met the volume sold for November 2008.  That is good news as it shows we are continuing to stay strong going into the winter season. I heard Spencer Rascoff interviewed on Fox TV yesterday.  He is COO of Zillow,, a big listing web site in the US.  He is predicting another ...

NAR San Diego - wrap up

NAR 2009, held in beautiful San Diego, was once again a mind expanding series of seminars over 3 1/2 days.  As with last years conference in Orlando, I came away educated, stimulated and invigorated, and probably a couple or other "ateds" I can't think of right now! Social media networking and technology were the major topics of discussion this year.  The economy wasn't nearly ...

A nip in the air

Unfortunately it looks like we're going to have winter again this year.  You would think we could skip one every now and then.  I maintain it will be difficult to convince a Maritimer that Global warming is a bad thing!!! Although fall is definately here, our real estate market is staying fairly steady.  Lots of projects still on the go with the Casino on Mountain Rd., the new Courthouse ...

Housing market improving

CMHC recently released their numbers for August and it is a reason to smile.  Their seasonally adjusted rate for new housing starts was up 12.1% to 150,400.  Not as good as 2008, but better than they had originally forcasted so some signs of recovery in the air. At our local board, August was very good.  Our volume sold was 3% higher than Aug '08 and 4% higher than Aug '07.  Our ...
