Teams from around the world are already signing up for the 2010 International Dragon Boat festival that will take place June 11 to 13 in Peterborough.
Registration doesn't close until March 2010, but Darlene Prager says more than 60 teams have already signed up for the big event.
All the provinces in Canada are represented, along with 11 teams from Australia, two from England, one New Zealand, two from Italy and seven from the United States.
"We do have some room left," says Ms Prager, registration chair for the festival.
On Thursday (Oct. 22) the official event logo for the festival was unveiled. The logo was designed by Peterborough resident Matt Stimpson, of the Designroom. Mr. Stimpson calls the design - which incorporates the Asian heritage of the dragon boat festival, the fountain on Little Lake, along with a Canadian maple leaf - "uplifting and inspiring."
"It just brings joy to everybody when they see it," says Carol Mutton, member of Peterborough's Suvivors Abreast team.
Hosting the International festival is expected to bring in $1.2 million to the region.
"It's a great opportunity to showcase our community," says Mayor Paul Ayotte.
