Linwood Homes, of Young's Point, took home some prestigious hardware Friday at the Canadian Home Builders' Association's National SAM Awards, bringing home a win in the single-detached, under 1,500 square feet category.
Peterborough native Craig McFarlane, the vice-president of Linwood Homes Ltd., which is headquartered in B.C. and has an office in Young's Point, was up for two awards this year.
It was the fifth year in a row the company was nominated for a national award.
The company’s winning Deerbay design, a production home, was built this year on Lower Buckhorn Lake.
The house was made as part of the early bird draw for the 2011 Princess Margaret Hospital Lottery.
"It had very large expansive glass in the living, dining and kitchen area. It's a big open-concept post-and-beam home," McFarlane told The Examiner in December. "For the small footprint that it was, it has a lot of value. It has a lot of unique stuff."
In 2009, Linwood won the national award for most outstanding new custom home between 2,500 and 4,000 square feet.
"We consider ourselves a winner just to be nominated. Being top five in Canada, that's huge," he said.
Peterborough's Discovery Dream Homes was also nominated this year in the SAM Awards and was a finalist in the under 2,500 square feet custom home category for its Wheelhouse design, built this summer on Pigeon Lake.
