ON MOVING DAY
Moving Checklist
- Make sure the items you need the most are packed last
- Pack essential items that you will need for the first 24 hours in your new home and pack them in your vehicle. IE: change of clothes, towels, toothbrushes, medication, and activities for small children, snacks, beverages, trash bags and possibly your address book.
ON MOVING DAY
- Have a notepad or clipboard handy to jot down last minute notes and reminders
- Be ready to go when your movers arrive
- Make sure the movers have clear directions to your home
- Make sure the moving company; helpers do not disrupt your neighbors' driveway etc.
- Try not to move to early or late in the day
- Arrange for a friend / neighbor / family member to look after your pet
- Remember to leave your old house as clean as you would like your new one to be when you move in
- Stick around for when the movers are done packing, you will be asked to sign a bill of lading and to go over an inventory sheet with them (keep this in mind on the other end of your move, they may also have you check a list for them as each box comes into your new home) remember to read all documents clearly before signing
- Remember to do a last walk thru of all rooms in your home

WHEN MOVING INTO YOUR NEW HOME:
Pick up all keys and make sure they fit the lock. Change locks or have key copies made if necessary.
Inspect the property:
- (a) Look for damage or defects outside and inside
- (b) Make sure everything works (lights, taps, toilets, appliances, doors, windows, etc.)
- (c) Read all meters:

- (d) Make sure the property is clean before moving in.
Move everything I, unpack, check for damage and draw any damage to the attention of the mover immediately.
NOTE: have plenty of food and beverage available; moving is hard work. Other useful items are bathroom tissue and paper towels.
Go over this list; make sure all important things have been attended to.
List all necessary phone numbers and put them by the telephone. Get to know the neighborhood. Where are the nearest schools, drug stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, Post office, or block parents in the area?
