Napanee......Did you know........The Original Name? Part 1

Did you know that Napanee got its start in 1768 with the arrival of Robert Clark, a young Millwright who just completed a gristmill at the Cataraqui settlement of Micheal Grass.  The site was chosen becasue of its 20 foot high waterfall, and although it was several miles from the Loyalist settlers along the waterfront along Lake Ontario, the British colonial administers felt it was central to to the district and that it offered good power and easy access.

The falls located at what we now call Spring side park, was once called Appanea Falls by the local Natives.

Stay tuned for more to follow on what Napanee's Original Name was !
