Cartwright never did make (Napanee) his permanent home, preferring to live in Kingston, but he must have maintained a resident of some sort here , as Governor John Graves Simcoe spent the night at Cartwright's (Napanee) home during a visit in 1795.
At the time of Cartwright's death, there was little evidence of a settlement on the Richmond side of the Napanee River, and the earliest residents of the falls, most of whom had jobs at the mills, built their homes on the southern bank.....Dubbed CLARKSVILLE.....and now you know that Napanee's Original Name was CLARKSVILLE !!!
