An exciting few days are ahead of us in Halifax as we once again welcome the Tall Ships to our fair city. The Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts will be alive with visitors from near and far checking out these elegant sailing vessels.
Rendez-Vous 2017 is a tribute to the 150th Anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. The Tall Ships Regatta is an exciting transatlantic race of over 7,000 nautical miles over the course of five months in six countries. With 40 Tall Ships from all over the world and more than 3,000 crew members, the Tall Ships will make 35 stopovers in different Canadian ports…. and Halifax is one of them. Additional stops will be made in the Maritimes. A complete list of locations and dates is available here: http://www.rdv2017.com/en/participating-cities/
In 2012, the Tall Ships visited Halifax and as a volunteer for the event, I was handed a camera and given access to take photos of this great event. To see these beautiful “cathedrals of the seas” up close and personal is truly a thrill. Having done some sailing myself, it is not hard to imagine flying across the oceans on these amazing ships.
This weekend is truly a time to celebrate as we host visitors, sailors, crew and more in our fair city. If you haven’t seen the Tall Ships before make it a point to get out this weekend and see them. Many will be open to the public giving you the opportunity to step aboard and admire their majestic beauty.

And for a sneak peak of what you might see, here are a just a couple of the photos I took back in 2012.
And don't miss the Parade of Sail on Tuesday, August 1st at noon. Come down to the Halifax Waterfront to watch these majestic ships sail out of Halifax Harbour!
