Cutting Down On Moving Expenses

Do you want to learn how to cut down on your moving expenses, while also being able to hire a moving company to help get your move completed? Then you need to understand some tips that will help you easily do just that.

1. Use free moving estimates to your advantage - Moving companies offer free moving estimates for a reason, so you can locate the best cost for your budget. When you take time to get multiple estimates and compare them, you will find out what company is offering you the best cost.

2. Eliminate services not needed - Moving companies offer a variety of services. If you are looking for ways to save money, then you need to find out which services you can eliminate and do on your own.

Two of the services offered by many of the companies is packing and unpacking. These are also two services that you can get rid of and handle on your own. The more services you are able to do for yourself, the more you will be able to cut down on your expenses.

3. Do something that not a lot of people do, ask about how to save money. Believe it or not, but the company will be happy to work with you on this because they understand that moving can be expensive and since they want you for a customer, they will help you locate as many ways as possible so you can save money with them.

4. Don’t take belongings that are not necessary - You want to take time to get rid of the belongings that you don’t use, want or need anymore. The more you can lighten the load that will be moved to your new home, the more money you will be able to save.

Boating With Man’s Best Friend

Taking along man’s best friend on your boating trip could be a great adventure for both you and him/her. For your furry friend, boating is like riding in his dream convertible with a blast of sun and fresh air from all directions. Nose in the air, ears blowing in the wind and his/her favorite people; what could be better!

When taking your dog on water related outings it’s important to keep the following five items in mind;

  • A towel just for your dog
  • A shirt or sweater made out of water-resistant material
  • A non-spill water bowl and lots of fresh bottled to put in it
  • A pooper-scooper and a trash bag or two
  • A life jacket for your dog

Another tip to consider is shade for your friend. Even though your dog may have many opportunities to jump into the water, it’s important he/she has a cool relaxing place for resting. Boat surfaces (such as fiberglass) can get extremely hot in the sun. Dogs absorb heat through the pads on their feet, so be sure to protect them. Your dog will surely be enjoying himself/herself so much that excitement could hide the fact he/she is overheated.

Now that you have most everything covered, pick the perfect day to go have that amazing adventure with your whole family! Always keeping safety first! Your dog is bound to have the time of his/her life. Enjoy your trip!

Mid-Month Resale Market Figures

Toronto Real Estate Board President Paul Etherington announced that Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® reported 5,661 home sales through TREB’s MLS® System during the first two weeks of June 2015. This result represented a 15.7 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2014.

“We continued to see a record pace of home sales in the first half of June, as home buyers remained upbeat on ownership housing as a quality long-term investment. Growth in home sales was widespread, with year-over-year increases for all major home types, suggesting that households from many different age groups and walks of life are active in today’s market,” said Mr. Etherington.

The average selling price for transactions reported during the first 14 days of June was $650,732 – up 12 per cent in comparison to the first 14 days of June 2014. Strong price growth was noted for low-rise home types and condominium apartments.

“The familiar story of strong demand running up against a constrained supply of homes for sale continued to play out in the first half of June. Modest growth in new listings was not enough to offset the pent-up demand that has built during the first half of 2015. As a result, strong competition between buyers continued to result in strong price growth,” said Jason Mercer, TREB’s Director of Market Analysis.

Ingredients

  • 9 slices 5 mm thick, good-quality white bread
  • 150 g dark chocolate
  • 5 tablespoons of butter
  • 1.9 cups of whip cream
  • 4 tablespoons of dark rum
  • 1⁄2 cup of caster sugar
  • A good pinch of cinnamon
  • 3 large eggs

Directions

  1. Remove the crusts from the slices of bread and cut each slice into 4 triangles.
  2. Place the chocolate, whip cream, rum, sugar, butter and cinnamon in a bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water. Wait until the butter and chocolate have melted
  3. Remove the bowl from the heat and give it a really good stir to mix all the ingredients.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and then pour the chocolate mixture over them.
  5. Spoon about an inch layer of the chocolate mixture into the base of the dish and arrange half the bread triangles over the chocolate in overlapping rows.
  6. Pour half the remaining chocolate mixture all over the bread as evenly as possible, then arrange the rest of the triangles over that, finishing off with a layer of chocolate.
  7. Cover the dish with clingfilm and allow to stand at room temperature for 2 hours before transferring it to the fridge for a minimum of 24 (but preferably 48) hours before cooking.
  8. When you’re ready to cook the pudding, pre-heat the oven to 350F (180C).
  9. Remove the clingfilm and bake in the oven on a high shelf for 30-35 minutes, by which time the top will be crunchy and the inside soft and squidgy.
  10. Leave it to stand for 10 minutes before serving with ice cream poured over.

Mid-Month Resale Market Figures

Toronto Real Estate Board President Paul Etherington announced a 9.6 per cent year-over-year increase in home sales reported by Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® during the first 14 days of May. There were 5,655 sales reported in the first two weeks of May 2015 compared to 5,160 sales during the same period in May 2014.

“It is clear that demand for ownership housing remains very strong in the GTA. So much so that, if the pace of sales experienced in the first half of this month is sustained in the second half, we will see record home sales for the month of May,” said Mr. Etherington.

The average selling price for transactions reported during the first 14 days of May was $ 652,782 for all home types combined – up by 10.7 per cent compared to the first two weeks of May 2014. The strongest price growth was experienced in the detached market segment, with the average price up by 13.8 per cent.

“The low-rise market segments, including detached home sales, have been the driver of average price growth in the GTA this year. As market conditions have tightened, average price growth has remained very strong. However, while tighter market conditions have been a key factor, so too has been a shift to higher priced homes. Detached sales growth in the City of Toronto, for example, has been strongest for high-end homes. The resulting change in the mix of homes sold has also been an important factor in pushing the average price higher,” said Jason Mercer, TREB’s Director of Market Analysis.

Pool Maintenance Tips

Every Day
There are several things you should do for your pool every day before you start swimming.

First, test the water of your pool for sanitizer and pH balance. You can add your pool sanitizer, usually chlorine or bromine, to make sure the water stays safe for swimming.

The next step to take is adjusting the pH level with a balancer to make sure the water doesn’t end up irritating you when you swim or damage pool equipment.

Finally, pull any loose debris out of the skimming basket to make sure thewater keeps circulating.

Weekly
Some pool maintenance tasks should happen once a week. These can either be done all at once, or spread out over the course of the week with the daily chores.

Start the weekly chores by shocking the pool water to keep it sanitized and raise the chlorine level.

Follow that chore by adding an algaecide that won’t stain your pool. Choose a metal removing compound to remove suspended metal particles and add a dose once a week.

Finally, add a water clarifier to help your pool’s water stay clear and send tiny particles to the filter.

When Necessary
A few pool chores are better done when there appears to be a problem. Pay attention to the daily state of your pool to make sure you catch issues early. If you are having a problem with pool debris, take these steps to make sure you keep your pool clean and clear for swimming.

Start by skimming any leaves that may be floating on the surface. Brush down the pool walls to catch any debris that may come loose later. Check the pool filter or backwash to make sure it doesn’t need replacing. Finally, vacuum your pool to remove debris.

Mid-Month Resale Market Figures

Toronto Real Estate Board President Paul Etherington announced that Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® reported 4,635 home sales during the first 14 days of April 2015. This result represented a 3.4 per cent increase compared to April 2014. New listings over the same period were down by 4.6 per cent year over year.

"Home sales in the GTA continued to increase in comparison to 2014 as a diversity of buyers took advantage of affordable home ownership options. However, in many neighbourhoods, listings remain scarce, particularly for ground-oriented home types like singles, semis and towns. Given the amount of pent-up demand in the market today, sales growth would accelerate further if more homes were listed for sale," said Mr. Etherington.

The average selling price for April mid-month home sales was $625,121 – up seven per cent in comparison to the same time frame in 2014. Average prices were up for all major home types, both in the City of Toronto and the surrounding regions.

"We are experiencing balanced to seller’s market conditions in most areas and market segments in the GTA. This suggests that home ownership demand is being driven by a wide swath of the population. On one hand, strong growth in condo listings has been met with strong growth in condo sales. On the other hand, we have also experienced growth in higher-end home sales,” said Jason Mercer, TREB’s Director of Market Analysis.

How To Create A Flawless Business Card

1. Personalize your card. People receive a lot of cards everyday so make sure that your card stands out. Make them memorable by customizing their look. It is best to design a card based on the likes and preferences of your target market.

2. Do not waste the space on the back of your card. You can add additional information or messages on it such as discount coupons, appointments, product descriptions, testimonials or even a map to your location.

3. As much as possible, stay away from poorly designed cards. The design of your card is the first thing that people notice when they receive your card. Distributing poorly designed cards will tell your clients that you don’t take pride in your company. Use high quality paper stock that is glossy or matte finished to give your card a sharp and professional look.

4. Include the basics. Do not make the same mistakes other business owners and professionals have made, like forgetting important information. Among this basic information is your name, your companies name, contact number, email, fax, and your website domain.

5. Colour use. It is important that you use the colour that best represents your business. The colour should be modified to the nature of your business and your target market. Make sure that your cards have the appropriate colors to make them as effective and eye-catching as possible.

Mid-Month Resale Market Figures

Toronto Real Estate Board President Paul Etherington announced that Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® reported 3,838 sales through the TorontoMLS system during the first two weeks of March 2015. This result represented an 11.8 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2014. New listings were also up over the same period, but by a lesser annual rate of 8.4 per cent.
"Strong year-over-year growth in home sales continued during the first half of March for most home types in the GTA, both in the City of Toronto and the surrounding regions. This suggests that households continue to view the purchase of a home as a quality long-term investment. But for a lack of low-rise listings in some neighbourhoods, it is quite possible that the number of sales could have been higher," said Mr. Etherington.
The average selling price for transactions reported during the first two weeks of March was $620,106 – up by 10.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2014. Price growth was driven by low-rise home types, including detached and semi-detached houses and townhouses.
"The fact that sales growth has continued to outpace listings growth suggests that there is pent-up demand in the marketplace, especially for singles, semis and townhouses. This is why we have experienced a sustained period of strong price growth for low-rise home types. So far in March, we have also experienced a greater share of high-end detached home sales compared to the same time frame in 2014. This has also influenced growth in the average selling price," said Jason Mercer, TREB’s Director of Market Analysis.

Making The Big Move Easier For Your Kids

Kids feel a lot of uncertainties and fear during a move. They may not be able to voice out their concerns, but in one way or another you’ll find them having the need to adjust to what’s happening around them. It might be hard for them to accept the fact that they will finally be leaving their friends and favourite places behind. Nothing is better than getting them all prepped up and ready for what’s to come. Breaking the news to them gently long before your scheduled move would be a good place to start.
Here are some other tips to help your kids change the way they think about your move:
  1. Include them in the planning process from day one. This way, they would feel like they are part of the decision-making process. This may lessen their uncertainties about what to expect. It also makes them feel like they are in control of the situation.
  2. Prepare them emotionally. Let them ask questions and answer positively. Help them look forward to the things they would want in their new home, like a bedroom of their own.
  3. As you pack your kids essentials kit, it would be a good idea to include some emotionally supportive entertainment like crayons, colouring books, puzzles, books, etc.
  4. Give them a background about the help you’ll be getting from your movers. Knowing that your family will get some help may make them feel better about the whole thing.
