Just came back from an awesome two week holiday in the Dominican Republic. We stayed at the Colonial Majestic in the Punta Cana region. Have been to this area twice in the last five years and both times have been great. The Dominican people are so nice. The first time down we stayed at the Barcelo Palace then changed to the Barcelo Beach because we could get a room on the beach. Great place also with five hotels, casino and a golf course. It is a big property but has little trains running all over so its great. The Majestic Colonial is set up differently and is only one main hotel with four wings stretching down to the beach. Having said that the wings are about 1500 ft each, three to four rooms high and lots of elevators throughout. It has the one of the nicest pools that I know of. It winds its way from the main lobby down through buildings two and four, building two over looks the pool and four is across the way from it seperated by beautiful gardens. There are four bars along this pool, shelves under the water to pull your lounger onto when it gets hot, tons of cabana's and plenty of stairs down into it. Out of 5 I rate the pool a 6
Rooms 2231 and 2331 are right in the middle of building two, right across from a bridge that will take you to the best place at the pool so I think that they are the best in the whole hotel complex. Huge balcony for happy hour and when the lights come on at night you can see all the way to the beach and up to the hotel. Beautiful. Out of 5 I rate the room a 6
Beach is awesome and long, about twenty miles with gorgeous white sand that does not get hot in the afternoon. The hotel has the longest area of beach around and lots of loungers and cabana's. A super beach to swim at and everyone can enjoy it as it does not get deep until you are out about 150 ft. Out of 5 I rate the beach a 6
The staff, because the hotel is fairly new ( less than two years) were not up to the level that usually comes with a 5 star but having said that there were many that were. I think also that if my Spanish was up to par then most of them would have been. They will improve with time. The front desk manager, Victor Pollantis and Angel (since been promoted to Supervisor) are great, Porters Edgar and Jason were super, Guest Requests was Dianna great(arranged birthday party and bands every where we went on one of my friends bithday) and of course Felix who fixed my breakfast every morning, and every one else's, with a big smile and a story. 6 star for those mentioned.
