Dunbar is famous for its gardens and tree-lined streets, which often arch across the entire roadway. Early spring brings hundreds of cherry trees to blossom, and the city maintains eight parks within the neighbourhood, including Musqueam Park, a 22-hectare oasis off Southwest Marine Drive along the Fraser River.

Dunbar Schools

As a parent you want the best education for your child. Before purchasing a home in the area, learn about the preschool, elementary & secondary schools in Dunbar. There are many options for your child's education. Many parents choose to enroll their child in a local neighborhood school because it is convenient and their school friends are close by. You may also want to choose a school or program because of your child's specific learning needs or interests. As of September 2003, students can now attend any school in the province where there is space. That means students can attend a school in their home district or in any other district.

When considering a neighborhood school or another school for your child, you have the right to ask questions about those schools and find out more information. This page is an excellent starting point to learn about local preschools, grade schools & high schools. For more information, contact the school or call me directly.

Families in the neighbourhood have plenty of choice when it comes to finding a preschool. Dunbar Village has four parent participation preschools offering programs for toddlers and preschoolers. Most of these schools have educated children, brought families together, and built community for at least 50 years, with Tom Thumb Preschool nearing its 70th anniversary.

Each preschool has its own special character and community. At Crown Preschool, holidays offer valuable opportunities. Every October, children and their dads (or grandpas) create memories together by carving pumpkins, singing songs, and reading stories. The program incorporates cooking, from apple crumbles and potato latkes to “Stone Soup.” After reading the classic story about creating soup out of nothing, each child brings a vegetable and the class makes and eats soup.

At Little People Preschool, every day brings new questions and discoveries. The flexible child-centred approach creates countless teachable moments. The children learn through doing and discovering. One day it might be making pasta, another day could find the class working with wood or on a field trip.

Dunbar Memorial Preschool offers a large open-concept space incorporating a reading corner, science table, dress-up, and other preschool favourites. From lively circle-time discussions to music and movement, the emphasis is on children learning to express themselves.

Marineview Preschool is a play-based centre, offering an opportunity for children to experience social relationships and learn about the world around them, as they do the work of childhood…PLAY! They provide a wide variety of activities that foster each child's social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.

Carnarvon Community School offers a number of childcare options including Preschool, Kindercare and Before & After School Care. Programming takes place in our beautiful childcare facility located on the playground directly adjacent to the school. After School Care programs also make use of the main school facilities.

The Vancouver Child Study Centre Preschool program consists of mixed age classes, with 3 and 4 year olds placed together. The curriculum, based on the Reggio approach, involves activities in all areas of development, including art, music, science, mathematics, and early literacy. They take great pride in offering a secure, stimulating environment where all children can thrive both creatively and socially.
