Sound of Music

When you hear "Sound of Music" most of us might start singing..."the hills are alive...with the sound of music...ahhhhh ahhh ah ahhhhh..."

But it is certainly not THAT Sound of Music I am speaking of.  Though I love that classic film, I'm talking about the very hot, very exciting, Sound of Music Festival in Downtown Burlington.  This is Canada's largest free music festival, how cool is that?  FREE LIVE MUSIC!  The downtown and waterfront are transformed into an exciting variety of events.  Happening now through Sunday this great festival of music and culture is sure to entertain all of your friends and family members.  There are musical talents, vendors, food and workshops.  I am definitely taking my 2 year old daughter to the Boomwacker Workshop; she will love wacking colourful PVC pipes to make music!

One of my favourite things is the organizers' endeavors to make this event green-er.  They are encouraging everyone to either bring or purchase a reusable bottle to use at the free water-refilling station.  There will also be compost, recycling and litter bins so do your part and sort your junk into the right bins!  They are also encouraging attendees to ride your bike to the event and park your bike in the Bike Corral.  Since car parking is limited, they even have a shuttle service for those green-Go Train riders to get to the event from the Fairview Go Station.  These options make for a fun event with little hiccups in the way of crowd issues.  We all know there will be lots of people but these organizers have loads of experience in making this event mostly frustration-free.

I am really looking forward to a Father's Day of family fun!  The only thing not my favourite is they advise leaving our 4-legged friends at home since it will be crowded and likely stressful for pets.  I support this request, I just like our family fun-days to include ALL our children, 2-legged and 4-legged.  Hope to see some of you!
