In Alberta, there’s a buyers’ market; in Manitoba, there’s a sellers’ market. Here in Saskatchewan, the market is balanced, with resale housing prices that haven’t contracted (as in Alberta), but are expected to increase to a projected 2010 average MLS sales price of $239,250.
While Saskatchewan’s housing sector isn’t expected to experience the record breaking numbers seen in 2007 and 2008, the market appears to be heading in a positive direction.
For 2010, Regina is forecast to see 970 housing starts and an average MLS price of $254,000. Meanwhile, Saskatoon is forecast to see 1,500 starts and an average MLS price of $285,000.
According to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC), housing starts are also projected to rise significantly across the prairies in 2010.
