New home construction in BC's cities climbed 20 cent in March to 26,276 units, up 6 per cent compared to March 2013. New single-family home construction rose 35%, but multi family construction dropped a bit.
Looking at census metropolitan areas (CMA) in BC, total start change over last year...
- Vancouver - up 2% in March, with a 30% increase in single-family units
- Victoria - starts fell 4%
- Kelowna - starts more than doubled over last year, gains in both single & multiple unit starts
- Abbotsford-Mission - sharply lower for the second consecutive month
The BC labour market gained a whopping 18,300 jobs in March, the highest monthly gains in over two years. The majority of the gains were full-time employment. The provinces unemployment rate fell to 5.8%, the lowest since December 2008.
