The Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) has just published its population outlook for all of Québec’s Regional County Municipalities (RCMs). Mirabel, in the Laurentides, tops the list with a projected population increase of 48 per cent between 2011 and 2036. In comparison, Québec as a whole is expected to register a population increase of 17 per cent during this same period. La Jacques-Cartier (+43 per cent) in the Capitale-Nationale area, Rivière-du-Nord (+43 per cent) in the Laurentides, Vaudreuil-Soulanges (+40 per cent) in Montérégie, and Les Moulins (+39 per cent) in Lanaudière, round out the top five RCMs that will register the largest population increases during the projection period. In contrast, the regions of Montreal and Laval are projected to increase 17% and 31% respectively.
This massive population growth in Mirabel may be the incentive for Premium Outlets discount mall, newly opened on Thursday, October 30. The Mirabel centre is a village-style mall with room for 84 shops, covering 365,500 square feet. There are some firsts for discount outlets in Canada like Max Mara, Desigual, Famous Footwear and Michael Kors.
