Residential property sales recorded through the MLS® System of the Barrie & District Association of REALTORS® Inc. numbered 400 units in October 2015, an increase of one per cent (four sales) from October 2014. This was a new record for the month of October.
Within the City of Barrie, sales activity was up 7.4 per cent on a year-over-year basis. The City of Barrie saw 233 residential sales in October. A year-over-year increase of 4.5 per cent was recorded in surrounding areas, where sales activity totalled 187 units.
On a year-to-date basis home sales totalled 4,647 units over the first ten months of 2015. This was up 8.9 per cent from 2014 and puts Barrie on pace for the best year on record.
“2015 has been a record year for the Barrie and District housing market, with October sales marking the sixth monthly record this year,” said Bruce Shipley, President of the Barrie and District Association of REALTORS®. “Record level demand has drawn inventories down to their lowest level in over a decade. That combination has created some of the tightest market conditions the region has ever seen, and put prices on a track to advance by about 10 per cent this year.”
The year-to-date average price figure for homes sold within the City of Barrie was $345,034. This was a 8.2 per cent increase compared to the year-to-date average selling price in 2014.
