You asked......

Everyone is very aware of the high property prices, lack of inventory, the quick sales, multiple offers, the deluge of new realtors working in our area and For Sale signs on our streets from companies that are new to the business/community. Properties are moving in a fast and furious manner and where market frenzies happen, unfortunately, 'craziness' can ensue. Some Realtors ® can get sloppy, can they forget to triple check the facts regarding the property, they may not add the all important inspection or financial clause - in an effort to 'win' a multiple bid for their clients, without explaining the possible ramifications to the buyer. Such conduct  hurts our profession. Recently released information states that the BC Government is assessing the best and fastest way to enhance transparency and consumer protection in the real estate industry.....We are working on legislation to... *Implement the recommended penalties, as well as increased fines for unlicensed activity and other offences. *Allow for commissions from licensees engaging in misconduct to be taken back.*No longer permit licensees to offer dual agency representation..." The Premier went on to say  *This report examines shady practices and challenges plaguing the real estate market.... putting consumers at risk and tarnishing the reputations of honest professionals in the sector". We applaud these efforts and hope these changes happen sooner rather than later. A reminder to chose your Realtor ®, based on history, referrals and familiarity with our market.
Until next time,  Diane
