Some sage advice from Terri-Lynn Dixon with Premiere Van Lines, "Here are a few steps to follow to make your move stress free!"

Step 1 - The Art of Planning

A good move is a well-planned move.  From the first phone call to the final drop off, your relocation specialist should carefully orchestrate every aspect of your move.

Pre-Move Counseling  Initial considerations should be presented to you and any questions or concerns answered to your satisfaction to help relieve the stress of moving.

Estimating  To guarantee the most accurate estimate possible, every room and storage area should be viewed by the estimator to get a clear picture of everything you own, and in particular, anything that requires special handling.

Security  An industry standard, basic liability protection should be offered for your belongings at no additional cost, or full value protection may be purchased, an affordable choice for peace of mind.

Step 2 - The Art of Packing

At no other time does the importance of skill and experience come into play than in packing.  Properly packing items ensures safe passage for all of your belongings.  Professional packers understand that every item you own demands the right material and packing method.

All breakables should be individually wrapped using proven techniques.  Dust-proof, reinforced wardrobe cartons keep your clothing and draperies neat and clean.  If you don't have the original boxes to move your electronic components, simply substitute professional materials.  For those priceless antiques custom wooden crates and protective packing should be used.  For maximum protection for mirrors and glass-front artwork, reinforced telescoping cartons should be used.

Step 3 - The Art of Moving

Your belongings are safely packed and moving day has arrived.  Now is when you see the benefits of a well-managed move.

Behind the Wheel  Drivers are the gatekeepers of the company.  They're the people that truly safeguard your belongings throughout the move-from loading the trucks to providing safe transportation.  And they should be the best at what they do.

Step 4 The Art of Moving In

If you choose, there are many additional services that can be arranged to help you settle into your new home.

Unloading  Every item and piece of furniture should be placed where you want it.

Unpacking  Depending on the level of unpacking service you require, items can simply be removed from cartons and all packing materials revmoved or, for a nominal additional cost, your goods can be unpacked and put away in your new home."

My own personal experience, dropping a lock, which scraped off paint from an authentic Thomas Kinkade, making it immediately worthless... DYI is not always the cheapest solution.
