Regina, SK

Regina, also known as the Queen City, is the capital of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city is the second largest in the province with a population of nearly 200,000 people, and is a cultural and commercial metropole for southern Saskatchewan.

Regina has a rich history that arose from the Aboriginal people, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and immigrant farmers and business people who developed the prairie into the world’s bread basket. A vast area of grain-growing countryside surrounds Regina with land stretching as far as the eye can see.

Regina has a diverse economic structure:

  • Steel and Manufacturing
  • Information Technology
  • Film and Interactive Media
  • Environment
  • Finance & Insurance
  • Energy and Agri-Business

The City has a resourced-based economy fuelled by agriculture, mining, oil & gas, and telecommunications.

There is an abundance of parks and greenspaces: all of its trees, shrubs and other plants were hand-planted. Regina experiences a dry humid climate with warm summers and cold, dry winters, prone to extremes at all times of the year.

MoneySense magazine rated Regina as one of the top 10 mid-sized places to live, work and play in Canada in 2013. All 180 Canadian cities with a population of 10,000 or more were rated in the following categories: weather, affordable housing, household income, discretionary income, new cars on the road, job prospects, population growth, health care access, low crime and ability to walk or bike to work.

One of the biggest events to hit Regina in winter 2013 iwas the 101st Grey Cup Festival. The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance has given the 2014 Prestige Award for Sport Event of the year to the 101st Grey Cup Festival in Regina.
