Important Message from the UMHA - updated April 15, 2016

RE:  Update on current Jets situation - Review of meeting on April 12, 2016

The UMHA would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting with our OMHA-Regional Director on April 12, 2016 at the Unionville Train Station.  Over 75 Jet supporters attended this 1.5 hour Question and Answer session.

The OMHA Board of Directors will be voting on our appeal at their upcoming meeting scheduled for April 23rd.  Once a decision has been made, our Regional Director will contact the UMHA informing us of the outcome.

We hope to present the decision to our membership at our upcoming Annual General Meeting scheduled for April 26th, 2016 starting at 7:30 pm.  This meeting will also take place at the Unionville Train Station.

Please send your comments and/or questions to info@umha.ca or president@umha.ca.

Kind regards,

UMHA Board of Directors

Re:   UMHA Select Teams (Novice to Juvenile) participation in the North York Select League      jets-logo.gif

The purpose of this note is to inform you of some recent developments with respect to the Unionville Jets Select program.  The Unionville Jets Select program has been an integral part of the UMHA for many years.  The mission of this program is to provide added development opportunities for house league hockey players interested in upgrading their skills, and to give these players the opportunity and the enjoyment of representing their hometown in a more competitive environment.

For the past decade the UMHA has been participating in the North York Hockey League’s Select program, which is a scheduled, tiered, competitive, non-checking league for select players in the Novice to Juvenile divisions.  In order to participate in a non-OMHA league, we are required annually to request permission from the OMHA, which has been granted since the 2006-2007 season.  This year we submitted our application to once again participate, however, after our application was reviewed by the OMHA Board of Directors in February, the UMHA received a letter shortly thereafter stating that, “The request from the Unionville Minor Hockey Association to allow the Association to continue to register their select teams in the NYSL for the 2016-2017 hockey season has been denied.”

This decision was received with great disappointment because our participation in the NYHL supports our membership in their objective to find a suitable level of play, commitment, cost and enjoyment while playing hockey in their community.  It also helps build the strength of our house league program.

After consulting with our Regional Director an appeal letter was sent to the OMHA asking them to reconsider their decision and continue to support the UMHA with permission to play in the NYHL. Right now the appeal letter remains with the OMHA and we are awaiting their decision.

The UMHA understands this is an important and sensitive matter to our membership and we are working to resolve it. We would like you to be part of the conversation and as a result, we have scheduled a meeting with our OMHA Regional Director for April 12th, 2016 at the Unionville Train Station starting at 7PM. This is your chance to speak with our Regional Director so that he can take a strong voice to the OMHA in support of our program.

If you have any thoughts, concerns or questions, please send an email to info@umha.ca or president@umha.ca.

We hope you will be able to join us on April 12th to show your support for the Jets program.

The UMHA Board of Directors
