Hazardous Materials in Homes

The existence of asbestos in a variety of building materials if homes has been the topic of concern for many municipalities and  insurance companies. Homes over 10 years old have the potential to have asbestos in the drywall/filler, flooring and various other materials used to finish buildings. As a result, Hazardous Materials Inspections are fast becoming a "normal" condition precedent on Purchase Contracts for single family homes, here in Victoria. Buyers should be made aware ( or have the option ) of any existing hazardous materials contained in the property that they are purchasing.
Also, if a Buyer is thinking of doing a renovation or addition to his newly aquired home, most municipalities in Greater Victoria require a Hazardous Material Inspection Report before issuing a building permit. Here's a reputable company in Victoria that can answer more questions.... http://www.hazpro.org/hazmat-reports-victoria-bc
