As is the case for many people in the real estate industry, I came to the profession after a career in other areas.
Among my prior business activities I spent several years in the Finance Division of Scotiabank. Beforehand, I had worked as a teacher and in the public sector in the Maritime Provinces. Experience in these areas provided varied financial, organizational and people skills, all of which prove to be helpful for a successful real estate career.
I became a realtor in 1991 with Canada Trust Realty and later worked with Kingsway National Realty in Port Credit.
Since 1996, I have been a member of the Century21 family starting with Century21 Wyford, a firm that later joined forces with Century21 Associates, Inc.
Before entering the Real Estate profession, I developed an interest in property investments, acquiring my first property in 1973. Later, I developed a particular interest in resale condominiums, after becoming a condo owner and investor.
Once I became a Realtor, I cultivated a special, ongoing interest in working with people buying or selling condominiums, including first time buyers, empty-nesters, investors, people contemplating down-sizing and, of course, with condo renters.
From time to time, I also act on behalf of non-resident owners or investors who need someone locally to help manage and take care of their holdings.
With family ties and life-long friendships in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, I hold a special place in my heart for the Eastern Provinces.
And with family members and extended family across several provinces, I truly feel that every part of Canada from Atlantic to Pacific can be a good place to call “Home”.
My spouse, Sandra, and I have resided in Mississauga since 1984. Over the years, we have enjoyed and participated in the growth of the city. We have two adult children: our daughter Katie lives In Vancouver and our son John resides In Mississauga.
For nearly a quarter of a century, I’ve held a special interest in condominium issues and the wider condominium community, as an owner, investor, landlord and realtor.
Twenty years ago, I became a volunteer elected member of the board for a 300-unIt condominium corporation in the City Centre area of Mississauga. I currently serve as President.
This lengthy involvement has afforded a wealth of insight into the challenges and the kinds of issues that are important to owners, residents and buyers. And in addition I have been able to see first-hand the many benefits provided by condominium living.
I have served as a volunteer for the CNIB, as well as a member and President of the local school Parent Education committee.
I usually work with residential buyers, sellers and renters in Mississauga, Toronto, Oakville, Brampton, and Milton.
For services elsewhere, I would be happy to put you in touch with capable real estate professionals in other areas of the province, in other provinces or internationally.
For some time I have also worked closely with a fellow Century21 Realtor, focusing on serving the real estate needs of residents of the Creditview community, just west of Mississauga’s City Centre.
I continue to expand and enhance capabilities to serve all the professional real estate needs of condominium owners, potential owners and residents in the Mississauga City Centre and in properties close to our spectacular extended south-western Lake Ontario waterfront, from Toronto Harbour to Bronte.
Among my interests are hiking and trail walking, road trips, and learning about housing and shelter practices around the world.
In the GTA, we are extremely fortunate to have a wide cross-section of people who have come from far and wide to become part of the local community and make Southern Ontario their home.
I particularly like exploring the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and have enjoyed seeing his historic western compound, Taliesin West in Arizona, and viewing other Wright homes and buildings in Detroit, New York and Pennsylvania.
I enjoy a range of other interests, including deserts, history, healthful living and exercise, playing bridge, and occasionally simply lazing around a backyard pool when the time and season permit.
I hold degrees in Science and Education from Mount Allison University and an MBA from The University of Western Ontario.
I have been a member of the Canadian Condominium Institute and have completed the Basic and Advanced Condominium courses offered by that organization.
As part of the on-going continuing education program that each Realtor undertakes, I have most recently completed courses on the Senior Housing Market and the Elder Client, Residential Appraisals, Advertising Practices and Stigmatized Properties.
