REALTORS have ETHICS!!!

    One of the things that frustrates me the most as a Realtor is the misconceptions that are out there.  Organized real estate has rules and regulations that we have to follow.  If we don't keep the playing field fair, then we will face repercussions.  So, we can't stop someone from going into a home that you like, if we're asked to show a home that you like, we are obligated to.  If that person happens to like the home and brings an offer to the table when yours is there too, IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!!  I am bound by rules and regulations. 

We have a code of ethics that we must follow.  This code of Ethics States:

As REALTORS®, we accept a personal obligation to the public and to our profession. The Code of Ethics of The Canadian Real Estate Association embodies these obligations. As REALTORS®, we are committed to:

.     • Professional competent service

.     • Absolute honesty and integrity in business dealings

.     • Co-operation with and fairness to all.

  • Personal accountability through compliance with CREA's Standards of

            Business Practice

To meet their obligations, REALTORS® pledge to observe the spirit of the Code in all of their activities and conduct their business in accordance with the Standards of Business Practice and the Golden Rule -Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

 

So, in the case of someone wanting to see the home that you would like to see, I HAVE to show the home when asked.  Otherwise, I am breaking the rule of 'Co-operation and Fairness to all'.    When I have an appointment to see a home, I can take anyone  through and I should take someone through if asked once I identify who they are and what their motive is.  Even if I don't take them through at that time, I am obligated to get them into that home as soon as possible.  That's MY job!   

 

Although sometimes these rules seem unfair, they are actually made to make things fair.  If you lost out on a deal because someone else came along, just remember that the shoe may be on the other foot someday.  Then you'll be happy that Realtors have to abide by the rules.
