Out Of the Mouths of Babes?

Dear Reader,

Out Of the Mouths of Babes?

I recently heard a wonderful story from a friend who has four nephews. The two youngest – ages four and seven – were staying with her for the weekend. They’re wonderful boys but, as you can imagine, very active. My friend’s children are grown, so she’s somewhat “out of practice.” That combination can become exhausting, to say the least!

On Sunday afternoon the youngest boy, Kyle, noticed that something wasn’t right. “What’s the matter, Auntie?” he asked, to which she replied, “I’m frustrated.” After a moment to think about that, Kyle announced, “Well, Auntie, you just need to stop, think and breathe.”

How is it that a four-year-old can be so profound? That little guy, simply by being himself, gave our whole family a new motto. Now, when any of us gets frustrated – or exasperated or overwhelmed or just plain annoyed – we remind ourselves to “stop, think and breathe.” Occasionally we remind each other, too!

As the busy holiday season approaches I plan to remember Kyle’s advice, and hope you will, too. I wish you and your loved ones the happiest of holidays!
