The term Kawartha was derived from the original word Ka-wa-tha meaning "land of reflections" in the Anishinaabe language. Tourism promoters changed it to Kawartha meaning "bright waters and happy lands."
Both words certainly describe our region well! Located just 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, you will find stunning lakes of all shapes and sizes, winding rivers, scenic farmland and limitless wilderness. Our office is centrally located between Pigeon Lake to the west and Kasshabog Lake to the east. I primarily focus on Pigeon, Chemong, Sandy, Buckhorn, Katchewanooka, Clear, Stoney, White and Kasshabog Lakes.
As you will see when clicking on the individual lakes they represent a diverse mix from small to large, narrow to round, weedy to sandy and clear to island filled. We are sure to find a lake and cottage to meet your needs.

Kasshabog Lake

My old stomping ground. Many people describe this land locked lake as a true piece of the Canadian Shield. It is shaped like an upside down “T” and offers roughly 12 km of boating. Mostly weed free, swimming off the dock is fantastic. The scenery offers outcroppings of rock, a fantastic mix of deciduous and coniferous trees and many unique islands. A boater’s paradise, well suited for all water sports.

Stoney Lake

Known as “The Jewel of the Kawarthas” and for good reason. We are now on the Trent Severn Waterway System, linking you via locks to the entire region and beyond. Stoney or Stony Lake (your choice but you are advised to listen to both sides of this debate) offers roughly 32 km of picturesque water to navigate and over 1,000 islands. You will quickly see a dazzling mix of over a half dozen 19th century settlements along with many million dollar plus dream cottages. On-going historic research argues convincingly that Champlain traveled the area lakes, rivers and overland portages in the 1500s. The cottages we see today and the family names that recur generation after generation represent the heritage that so many Stoney Lakers cherish. From the enthusiastic writings of Susannah Moodie, the watercolours of early surveyors, the vast oral histories of settlers, steamboat crews and loggers and the diaries of summer cottagers, Stoney lake has a deep and varied history.

Clear Lake

Leading you out of Stoney Lake to the west this lake is quite wide and virtually island free offering unmatched sunset and sunrise views. You will find plenty of room to navigate larger boats. Many of the older cottages have been purchased and replaced with high end custom built cottages. With easy road access and within close proximity to the Village of Lakefield this lake is a popular choice.

White Lake

Formerly know as Dummer Lake this land locked lake is one of the smaller lakes in our area. It is a stones throw away from Stoney Lake and some of the cottagers have a boat on both White and Stoney offering them the best of both worlds. Fishing, water sports, sandy shorelines and friendly locals make this lake a popular choice for many cottagers. The prices are reasonable and the lots are spacious.

Katchewanooka Lake

This lake is roughly 1 km wide and 8 km long. Leading from the Village of Lakefield upstream you will find great fishing spots, fantastic swimming and Lakefield’s local 18 hole golf course. Merely a short drive from town you will be impressed how you truly feel that you are in the country and “at the cottage”.
