Milton became famous when it was announced in 2006 that it was the fastest growing community in Canada.  Growth in Milton exploded following the opening up of new development when Milton expanded it water and waste facilities in the early part of the 21st century.  Population as of 2006 was 53,939 but it has grown drastically since then. Milton is located north  of Oakville and west of Mississauga.  Originally named Mill Town, Milton was made a town in 1857 and is now part of the municipality of Halton.

Things to Do

Milton is located adjacent to the Niagara Escarpment and boasts many important heritage areas: 5 large parks are operated by Conservation Halton with the town limits. Hikers and nature lovers enjoy the extensive walking and hiking paths on the Bruce Trail which extends from Niagara Falls to Tobermory. Crawford Lake is a meticulously maintained Native heritage museum where visitors can view a recreated Native village. MountsbergRattlesnake Point also provide extensive outdoor activities and great views over the escarpment. The Glen Eden Ski and Snowboard Centre provides winter fun right in town and has an excellent ski school.  The highlight  of the Fall is the Milton Fall Fair which is now 60 years strong and features an agricultural show, livestock, a demolition derby and other traditional fall fair events.

Real Estate

Services have grown in Milton to serve the growing population. When the “Big Pipe” projected was completed bringing water to the town from Lake Ontario, the builders moved in, creating extensive new subdivisions around the town. Hawthorne Village is one of the most popular new communities and building is continuing. Milton is very popular with young families because of its affordability compared to the neighbouring communities of Oakville and Mississauga.
