Etobicoke, Toronto, ON, Canada

Neighbourhood Information
Etobicoke

Located just to the west of Toronto on Lake Ontario, Etobicoke has quick access to the city.  Toronto is accessible by subway, streetcar and highway.  On the lake are some of the city’s most beautiful condo developments including the prestigious Palace Pier.   The Kingsway and Baby Point areas are very sought-after with classy architecturally diverse homes built in the 20’s and 30’s.  With a population of 345,000 it is bordered on the south by Lake Ontario, on the east by the Humber River, on the west by Etobicoke Creek, and on the north by Steeles Avenue. The area was originally settled by Native peoples from which the name derives.  First incorporated as a township in 1850, Etobicoke merged with the three small lakeside communities of Long Branch, New Toronto and Mimico in 1967 to form the borough of Etobicoke. The area became part of the City of Toronto in 1998.

Things to Do

Etobicoke is on the lake and offers all the associated services and activities:  Marina, boating, lakefront parks and trails.  Located in the Humber River ravine The Old Mill is a favourite setting for weddings and events.  The Royal York and Bloor area has a quaint village feel and offers great restaurants, pubs and boutiques.  St. Georges golf course is one of Canada’s finest and is located on Islington Avenue in Etobicoke.  Sherway Gardens is considered to be one of the top 2 shopping malls in the GTA.  Many fashionable outlets to choose from including Holt Renfrew, Sporting Life and Harry Rosen.   Kaji Sushi on the Queensway is often touted as the best in town.

Education

All public schools in Etobicoke are part of the Toronto District School Board. Etobicoke is also home to Humber College and University of Guelph at Humber.

Real Estate

The former commercial sector around the southern Humber Bay is now home to high rise condo towers and townhouses in the Mystic Pointe development.  Some of Etobicoke’s most exclusive residential neighbourhoods can be found in central Etobicoke.  The Bloor Street West area is trendy and features mixed housing incorporating traditional residential properties and high rise rentals.
