What's going on around town?

If you are interested in our area and want to see what's going on, take a look below or check out my blog as well.  If you know of something you want to share, send me an email and I will post it for you.

Congratulations to all the people at the City of Moncton who worked so hard to get Moncton selected to the top 7 finalists for "Most Intelligent Community".  This award is given annually by the Intelligent Community Forum, a New York based think tank.  See my blog for more details

Moncton was successful on the International stage again by doing an awesome job on the Men's World curling and now we are gearing up for AC/DC.  I hear that U2 may be on the way this fall as well.  We have the International Track and Field World Championships next summer - this is a warm up to the Olympics.  There is no question that Metro Moncton is batting well above its weight!

Summer of '09 will see two major concerts coming this way: Bon Jovi in June and AC/DC in August.

On July 4th there was an 3 on 3 basketball event at the Colisium parking lot.  I just stumbled upon it (not being a b-ball fan)but it looked like it was well attended and everyone was enjoying themselves.

2009 Atlantic Nationals

Here are a few of the approximately 1800 cars in for the 9th annual Atlantic Nationals Car Show.  I have others posted on my blog and in the Moncton Gallery - also on this website

Each year, balloonists and thousands of their fans come to the Sussex International Balloon Festival held in the Town of Sussex, about 40 minutes south-west of Moncton.  it is a great event and if your lucky enough to be there for an early morning or evening "lift-off", it is quite spectacular.  Here are a few photos from this years show.

]The Moncton 4 Ice Center was home to some terrific hockey this weekend as the Annual AAA Midget tornamnet was being played.  Along with some great hockey, our hotels and restaurants got the benefit of a large group of visitors during their shoulder season.  This helps to keep our ocupancy rates high.

Olympic torch on it's way through Riverview

It eventually got to here.  The cauldron was just down the street from Century21's head office in Vancouver.

Here is a golden opportunity for anyone interested in operating a restaurant.  This well established business is the only licensed restaurant in Petitcodiac and has been known for many years for the high quality of their food.  A popular tourist stop year round, as an added bonus, it is fully accessible from the snow mobile trails and is a favorite stop for snowmobiliers and motor cycles.  This is a turn key operation and is being sold fully stocked and ready to operate.  The current owner has installed a measured pour system in the bar area and uses the maitre de point of sale system to control inventory and sales.  The building was renovated approximately 1 year ago and is in top condition.  The sound system will handle live bands and the interior can be divided into two rooms for private parties. The vendor will be keeping a few personal effects from the restaurant but a list will be provided to any prospective buyer.
