As reported in the Leader Post, building permits have been setting records for about the past 10 years. 2011 is the first time to hit the $500-million mark in the city's 108 year old history.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp (CMHC) reported that there were 274 housing units started in October, almost triple from October 2010, this brings the total starts year-to-date to more than 1,400 making this the best year for starts in a decade.

In the Regina area, home sales were as hot as the weather in September with new highs recorded for residential property sales. The number of sales in September 2011 was up 21% from the same time a year ago.

In the Regina area, both May and June were record setting months with home sales over 400. July sales of 330, was up 5% from July 2010 and is considered average for this time of the year.

In Regina and area, residential home sales in May surpassed the 400 mark for the first time since July 2009. May’s average price of $296,838 set a new high for any month in the history of the Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc. MLS® System and was up 18% from May 2010. In the city, the average price of $304,370 was the first time ever to be above $300,000.
