When we moved the kitchen was the first thing we unpacked and it took almost a whole day. Since moving day I have shuffled things around here and there however I know we are not using the space efficiently.
Step 1: Identify your problem areas
I.e. - utensil drawer, pantry, tupperware cupboard
Step 2: Pull everything out
I mean EVERYTHING! It is going to get worse before it gets better.
Step 3: Purge
I always ask myself if I have used it in the last 6 months and if I haven't I purge it! Also, don't give into "gift guilt"! Just because it was a gift doesn't mean you need to keep it forever.
Step 4: Rethink Positions of your goods
I try to group "like" items together! Pots and pans go near the stove, as well do my spices! I try to keep my dishes close to the table and dishwasher! All small appliances need a home!
Step 5: Assess your storage needs
There are many storage "hacks" that will help keep your goods visual and save space. Below are some examples that I personally love!
Step 6: Assign everything "a place" and put it back!
Once you've assessed what you have, grouped LIKE items together and scrounged up or purchased any baskets of storage tools you might need, the time has come to put it away again!
