Rivière-des-Prairies : Garbage Collection to Take Place Once A Week
We would like to announce that as of January 1st 2010, garbage collection will be reduced to once a week instead of twice a week in our borough of R.D.P. Rivière-des-Prairies/Pointe-aux-Trembles will be the first borough to reduce its collection of household waste.
The resolution received a majority of votes at the last municipal council meeting, which took place on November 2nd 2010.
Since the goal of this initiative is to encourage recycling in the community, 25 400 recycling bins on wheels, of 360 liters each, will be distributed in the borough beginning next Spring. Chantal Rouleau, the borough’s mayor, announced that in addition to the distribution of these recycling bins, a sensibility and education campaign will incite our citizens to take greater advantage of their recycling options.
It seems that, thanks to this new resolution, the borough will save 2 M $ over the course of the next three years. The borough has also signed a new contract allowing the garbage trucks to deposit the waste a lot closer, which means that the distance the trucks must travel will be greatly reduced. As a result of this new contract, the borough of R.D.P. will reduce the emissions of gas coming from the trucks.
