On June 9th and 10th, 2013 Easter Seals held their annual 24 Hour Relay fundraiser event.
While there were participants from all over the Okanagan with some 600 people joining in the two-day event in Kelowna, Century 21 across Canada supports Easter Seals Camp.
The money raised goes towards sending a child with disabilities to camp for one week. At a cost of about $2,400 per child, Century 21 Assurance Realty in Kelowna and Century 21 Executives Realty in Vernon raised about $24,000 and a CHBC report states the total money raised by the event and all participants will send about 600 kids to camp this year.
Today, Easter Seals Camp on Facebook report that camp counsellors have arrived today for their orientation and are gearing up for the upcoming camp season! At the open ceremonies of the 24 Hour Relay in Kelowna this past weekend, I heard a returning camp counsellor talk of his experience with the kids and that they simply get a chance at being a kid. There is swimming, a rock wall, a water side and a giant swing not to mention usual camp antics like pranks and dressing up!
I am very proud to work for an organization like Century 21 and be part of the fundraising that can send a kid to camp. I read another article of a parent talking about not only the benefit to their disabled child but the benefit to their entire family. They can spend the week freely with their other children, knowing their disabled child is having fun but are also in good hands getting the care they need.
Thank you to everyone who donated to Easter Seals Camp through Century 21!
